Friday May 5 @ 02:01pmSo, this happened. I’m going to be abandoning this blog and I just finished exporting all my old posts to the new account last night, ‘cuz I wanted to keep my archive. (Don’t worry, I’ll be gradually re-following you guys as well. It’s going to take a few days, but no one will be forgotten about.) It’s literally the same blog - atheism, feminism, politics, etc. You already followed me here, no why not there instead? :)
(The reason, if you’re interested, is because I absolutely HATED having this as my secondary blog, but Tumblr doesn’t let you switch primary and secondary blogs, which I didn’t know when I first signed up. Yes, it’s horrible having to start all over with my followers, but that can be fixed, whereas the other thing can’t. So pleeease show me what a nice person you are and come on over to the new blog. <3)

Sorry to the people that have already made the transition, I promise I’ll only be sharing this once or twice a day for the next few days (a week tops). :) Bear with me. And if you’ve already moved over to the new blog, THANK YOU, and I hope many cookies come into your possession. <3
Wednesday May 5 @ 02:01pmI’m sorry for the spam, it’ll only be once a day for the next week or so, and I’ll try to do it at different times to catch different people. Thanks, all my lovely followers. <3
I am tired of hearing men say “Don’t allow women in combat!” when they are already in combat.
As a Marine, I know women Marines who have been in combat, have been wounded in combat, and have died in combat.
We’re not asking to be put in combat, we are already there. We are asking to be recognized.
Once a guy in the Navy tried to tell me women can’t be in combat because the men would try to protect them (pretty common, albeit incredibly stupid, argument). When I said, “Well, why not just organize all-female combat teams then?” he preceded to tell me that studies have shown women can’t work well together because they’re too catty and competitive with one another (or something along those lines). Needless to say, this person is no longer in my life.
If you want to see awesome (fictional) representations of women in ‘combat’, try Sam Carter from Stargate SG-1, Aeryn Sun from Farscape, and the eponymous Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All very kickass women.

Here’s Condescending Wonka’s spin on “Why love one but eat the other?” If you “love animals” that applies to the entire animal kingdom. Perhaps you should say “I love dogs and cats, but pigs and chickens not so much.” I grew up with pet chickens. They’re awesome! That’s why I stopped eating chicken at age 7. Make the connection. Because what you buy supports the kind of world you want to live in. If you drink cow’s milk, you’re supporting the veal industry. Be the change you wish to see. If you buy animal products, you’re buying cruelty. Period. Go vegan- the animals will thank you for it. #vegansofig
Be offended if you like, this is *definitely* a contradiction for most people on Tumblr (ie, privileged Westerners). There are exceptions, but IN GENERAL, it’s completely ridiculous to claim to love animals whilst ignoring the horrible mistreatment that goes on in factory farms, or even just killing them when you don’t need to. I am NOT talking about people who live in the middle of nowhere and can’t get access to other food. I’m talking about MOST PEOPLE HERE, READING THIS. Yes, fake meat products are expensive (that doesn’t mean you have to supplement your diet with that either, cheaper alternatives exist). Yes, vegetarianism makes eating harder. However, since when should morality only matter when it’s also convenient?

Wednesday May 5 @ 04:53pmTarika Wilson, the 26-year old unarmed, bi-racial mother of six who was fatally shot by police officers during a raid-gone-wrong in early January of 2008.
She was likely on her knees and complying with a SWAT team’s orders to get down when she was hit in the neck and chest, two experts testified.
A forensic pathologist and firearms expert each said that bullet wounds indicate that Tarika Wilson wasn’t standing or struggling with officers.
She was holding her 1-year-old son on her knees when she was shot. The boy also was hit and had a finger amputated.
This tragedy set off protests and debate about race relations in the city (LIMA, Ohio), where one in four residents are black.
